Metropolitan Museum of Arts FAQs

Visitors need a valid Met ticket to enter or be admitted into the Metropolitan Museum of Art. 

Members and Patrons of the Museum, kids under 12, visitors with disabilities, and a caregiver accompanying them are the only ones who can enter The Met for free. 

You will need a valid entry ticket to enter the museum if you don’t belong to one of these categories. 

Yes, tickets are available at the museum.

However, the museum ticket counter faces huge crowds and long waiting time during the peak summer months. 

Visitors can purchase tickets online or at the museum ticket counter. 

We recommend you purchase them online to avoid waiting in long queues at the museum. 

The Met Entry ticket costs $74 for adults above 15 years and $64 for children between 2 and 14 years, whereas infants under 2 get in for free.

Entry to The Met is free for Members, Patrons, guests with disabilities and one accompanying caregiver, and children under 2.

The Met ticket includes same-day access to The Met NYC Fifth Avenue, The Met Breuer, and The Met Cloisters. 

Visitors can purchase admission tickets online as well as offline. 

Visitors need not purchase separate tickets to The Met Cloisters. 

The Met Fifth Avenue tickets also include access to the Cloisters and the Met Breuer.

Guests must access all the museums on the same day.

Visiting the Met can take all day due to its large collection of over one million artworks. 

Guests need at least three to five hours to check out the Permanent collections only, so exploring the major portion of the Museum will take even longer.

Visitors can reach the Met using various modes of transportation such as buses, subways, taxis, etc. 

You can take subway lines 4, 5 or 6 to reach the 86th Street Station. The museum is a three-minute walk from there. 

84th Street bus station is the closest stop to reach the MET, and you can get there on bus M1, M2, M3 or M4. 

Guests can visit and explore The Met with a baby, as the Museum offers so much for kids. 

Small guests can stay on their strollers as strollers, except large and jogging strollers are allowed inside most galleries. 

MET regularly hosts special events and exhibitions.

Photography is allowed in the MET for personal and non-commercial use. 

MET offers all visitors a cloakroom for storing coats and bags.

MET offers various dining options, from grab-and-go to casual and fine dining.

Small backpacks are allowed but must be worn or carried on your front.
