Height of the Pedestal

The pedestal is the base upon which the Statue of Liberty stands and  is about 154 feet (47 meters) in height 

It is 62 square feet at the base and 39.2 square feet at the top.

The pedestal’s foundation is made up of concrete and granite and extends 41 feet below ground level.

From its balcony, you can appreciate breathtaking views of Manhattan, Ellis Island, and the majestic New York Harbor.

Statue’s Height Without the Pedestal

The statue’s height is 151 feet (46 meters) without the base.

Its face stands 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall, and its eyes are 2 feet (0.6 meters) wide.

Similarly, its nose is 4 feet 6 inches long (1.37 meters), and its mouth is 3 feet wide (0.9 meters).

The right arm holding the torch is 42 feet (12.8 meters) long, while the left arm carrying the tablet is 27 feet (8.2 meters) long.

Its total weight is 204 metric tons without the pedestal

The statue was created using the repousse technique, wherein copper sheets were hammered into shape and assembled over a framework.

Statue of Liberty Torch

The Lady Liberty’s torch, designed by Frederic Bartholdi, symbolizes the light of liberty and hope for immigrants.

It is 29 feet tall, from the tip of the flame to the bottom of the handle.

While the flame represents the imprisoned lightning, the handle welcomes all who seek refuge and opportunity.

It’s Crown

The Statue of Liberty crown was constructed using copper sheets covered in gold leaf.

It has seven spikes, representing the seven continents and areas of the world.

Each spike is 9 feet long (2.7 meters) and weighs about 150 pounds (68 kilograms). 

The crown’s circumference at its base is 35 feet (10.7 meters), adding to the statue’s dignified appearance.

You must climb 377 steps from pedestal to crown to enjoy stunning Manhattan views from any of its 25 windows.

The total weight of the crown is approximately 1050 pounds (476 kg).
