At the full capacity of 81 boxes, the Spanish Riding School stallions take their summer vacation at Heldenberg.

In 2010, Lipizzan Training Center served as another place where the horses could train before they mastered the School Quadrille. On average, their training takes six years.

In addition to July and August, they also get up to six to eight weeks in the year when they can roam freely in the grass fields.

Opening Hours

While you visit the Spanish Riding School, to see the horses in a more relaxed aura make sure to visit the Lipizzaner Training Center.

Between November and March, you will be able to visit the Lipizzaner Training Center on Saturday and Sunday between 9 am and 5 pm.

If you visit during April or October, you can visit from Tuesday to Sunday during the day from 9 am to 5 pm.

Between 12 pm and 1 pm, the Lipizzaner horses return to their stables to rest, so guided tours are unavailable.

You can get your tickets offline at the Lipizzaner Training Center itself. Adult tickets are €13 for those between 19 and 64 years. 

Discounted tickets are available for seniors above 65 years and visitors in groups at €10 per adult.

Another option is €7 for youth between 15 and 18 years of age, students up to the age of 26 years, people with disabilities, and Austrian military recruits.

Children up to five years have free entry and get the reduced price of €4 if they are between six and fourteen years old, particularly for school children on field trips.

There is a combo ticket for two adults and up to three children at €28, which is perfect for families.

How to Reach

The distance between the Spanish Riding School and the Lipizzaner Training Center is 53 km if you directly drive or take a taxi.

The public transport in Austria is very useful, and you can easily travel to Heldenberg from Vienna.

Stephansplatz station is 500 m from the Spanish Riding School, an easy seven minute walk.

Board the U1 Bus heading towards Leopoldau and get off at the third stop, Praterstern, 3 minutes away.

From there you can board the REX 3, heading towards Znojmo. You will get off at the sixth stop, Hollabrunn Bahnhof, roughly 43 minutes away.

Change to Bus 803, with the destination of Ruppersthal Ortsmitte. You will stay on for five stops and get off after 15 minutes at Großweikersdorf Hauptplatz.

Then switch to Bus 803 and head back to Hollabrunn Bahnhof (Busbahnhof) for two stops, which is just eight minutes. 

You will be at Kleinwetzdorf Schloss station, and from here, the Lipizzaner Training Center is only 400 m away. You will be at your destination in 5 minutes.

A vacation spot for these hardworking stallions since 2005, the Lipizzaners enjoy the paddocks and ample space at Heldenberg in the Weinviertel region of Lower Austria.

The free reign in nature allows the horses to maintain their vitality during their long career.

Initially, their retirement was spent in the fresh air and picturesque environment. Since 2010, Heldenberg has also been a training center for young stallions.

The Spanish Riding School offers opportunities for the growth of the international equestrian community by training riders here.

Opt for theoretical courses, seminars for professional riders and dressage judges by international experts for the best classes with Lipizzaner stallions in training.

Visitors can choose between guided tours, lectures and presentations to learn more about the oldest European breeds.

Watch how the Lipizzaners are trained and take the adventure path to get involved.

You can see the stallions mainly during guided tours at 9.45 am,11 am, 1 pm, 2.15 pm, and 3.30 pm.

Carriage Exhibition

Besides classical dressage, the Lipizzaner are excellent horses for drawing carriages. 

In April 2018, the Heldenberg put up a carriage exhibit of 18th and 19th Century vintage pieces.
