Sailors have been using it as a guide for hundreds of years.

2. Bessastaðir

Bessastaðir is an old farm that dates back to when Iceland first settled more than 1000 years ago.

Now, this place is the residence of Iceland’s president. It has a variety of buildings, like a reception room, a service wing, and a church.

4. Fagradalsfjall

The Fagradalsfjall volcano site is located in the Meradalir Valley and can be easily viewed from the lagoon.

Sitting in warm lagoon water and checking out the magnificent volcano is an absolute treat. 

The volcano is on the Reykjanes Peninsula, in a zone of active rifting at the divergent boundary between the Eurasian and North American Plates. 

The volcanic activity was concentrated in one large crater with a periodic outflow of lava. The eruption built up a small lava shield that covers 4.85 km2. 

Based on the latest information, the volcano has erupted three times since 2021, and predictions are that it will erupt frequently. 

The area around Fagradalsfjall is popular with tourists, and there are hiking trails that lead to the volcano.

Wildlife at Sky Lagoon

The sea around Sky Lagoon is full of colourful wildlife.

While swimming in the lagoon, you can see the beautiful birds.

Some of the birds you might see are black and white Brant, red-eyed oystercatchers, tiny sandpipers, Arctic terns, and the strong Cormorant that dives deep to catch big fish.
